Miley Cyrus released her new single Midnight Sky this past week by the time this post goes live. I will be the first to admit that I was not in the loop as to when this song would be released (I'm sorry). This Summer we not only suffered from a pandemic, we suffered a lack of bops to listen to while stuck at home. We know that for a while now, sone of our favourite artists have been unapologetically lazy with new inspiring music. On a later post, I will make note of just who some of these pop artists are.
Nevertheless, Miley Cyrus has proven yet again that she does not, and cannot stop creating good music. A lot of people paint Miley Cyrus as one of many problematic artists, and I am here to say who cares. I will always respect Ms. Miley Cyrus. Let's go back to 2013. 2013 was a very crucial point in Mylie Cyrus' career because she created an album that was ahead of its time. Mylie's Bangerz album was ahead of its time because it was doing something that took most artists five years to do. I am of course talking about the amalgamation of rap music and pop music. Miley did it first. This was also a time in which she broke apart from the Disney label. She made a lot of moves that at the time seemed risky. Looking at Cyrus now you get to see the bigger picture. She is an artist.
Speaking of being the artist mentality, Miley Cyrus plans her eras very carefully. Some people say that she is constantly reinventing herself. I might disagree, I would go as far as to say that she plans her brand ahead of time with a lot of thought. What does that mean? You can usually tell what era her music is from based on her hair, and overall esthetic. Each album cover displays a different motif. For Bangerz, it was 80s Miami. For Younger Now, it was 70s punk rock. In She is Coming, she goes after the early 2000s look.
When I heard that Midnight Sky would be representing 80s music, I was worried. I am a huge 80s fan, have you seen my home page? I did not want another repeat 80s dance track that had no real heart and passion behind it. So when I did listen to Midnight Sky for the first time, I knew I needed to talk about just how lucky we are to have someone like Miley Cyrus making music.
The overall writing of this song is something that I could relate to. The music for this song is also well written considering the current state of most pop songs... Ehem Watermelon Sugar.
We do not have a release date for the new Milley Cyrus Album, but I am extremely confident that it will be something ahead of its time. Miley Cyrus is a true artist. That is all.
